Reviewing your Symptom Checklist

As you have hopefully been doing every week, please take the time to complete your ASRS Symptom Checklist before your therapy session, and share your score to your therapist.

Reviewing your Medical Adherence

As well as your Symptom Checklist, make sure to record your dosages for prescribed medication, as well as the amount of doses you may of missed. Try and review triggers for why you missed your doses; some include getting distracted, running out of medication, or actively thinking of not wanting / needing the medication.

Reviewing Management Strategies

As you continue your therapeutic journey, take time each week to reflect on how you're integrating the skills learned into your life. Celebrate your successes and address any hurdles you encounter along the way. Let's recap the tools for organization and planning:

  1. Calendar Management: Keep track of appointments and commitments using a calendar system that suits your needs.

  2. Task Lists: Utilize a task list system to outline your goals and to-dos, helping you stay focused and organized.

  3. Priority Ratings: Assign priorities to tasks using the "A," "B," and "C" rating system, ensuring you tackle what's most important first.

By consistently applying these strategies, you'll enhance your productivity and bring more balance to your daily life. Keep up the great work!

Problem - Solving Strategies: The Five Steps in Problem Solving

Recognizing when you're struggling to complete a task or feeling overwhelmed is the first step in addressing challenges effectively. It's important to understand that problems are called "problems" precisely because there's no easy fix readily available. Often, potential solutions come with their own set of pros and cons, leading to issues like procrastination.

Once you acknowledge there's a problem, you can employ powerful problem-solving strategies to overcome it. In this section, we'll explore two key skills: selecting an action plan and breaking down overwhelming tasks into manageable steps.

Creating an action plan becomes invaluable when you're unsure how to tackle a problem or when faced with multiple potential solutions. This process involves the following five steps:

  1. Identify the Problem: Clearly define the issue at hand, ensuring you understand its scope and impact.

    1. Example could be "I can't decide whether to quit my job or not".

  2. Generate Possible Solutions: Brainstorm various ways to address the problem, considering both conventional and creative approaches.

    1. "Maybe I should ask around for advice, or ask HR".

  3. Evaluate Solutions: Assess the pros and cons of each potential solution, considering factors like feasibility, effectiveness, and potential consequences.

    1. "Asking others might give me some new ideas and insight. However, too many idea's might overwhelm me".

  4. Select an Action Plan: Choose the most promising solution based on your evaluation, taking into account your resources, timeline, and personal preferences.

    1. "I'll try and ask around, and write down the pros and cons for the advice. Then, I'll make sure to weigh in my own decision after".

  5. Implement the Plan: Put your chosen solution into action, taking deliberate steps to address the problem and achieve your desired outcome.

By following these steps, you can navigate through complex challenges with greater clarity and confidence. Remember, even seemingly small actions can lead to significant progress. Keep practicing these skills, and you'll become adept at overcoming obstacles in no time!

Skill: Breaking Down Overwhelming Tasks into Bite-Sized Steps

When faced with a daunting task, it's common to feel overwhelmed and tempted to procrastinate. However, by mastering the skill of breaking down large tasks into smaller, manageable steps, you can boost your motivation and productivity. Here's how to do it:

  1. Choose a challenging task from your to-do list or from the solution you've identified through problem-solving.

  2. Break the task into smaller steps, asking yourself what needs to be done first.

  3. Ensure each step is realistic and achievable in a day. If not, break it down further.

  4. Add each step to your master list for easy reference.

  5. Transfer individual steps to your daily task list as needed, focusing on what you aim to accomplish each day.

  6. If helpful, schedule specific tasks on your calendar to allocate time slots for completion.

By following these steps, you'll find tackling intimidating tasks much more manageable and less daunting. Remember, progress is made one step at a time!

Potential Challenges

If you struggle with distractibility while trying to implement these skills, don't lose heart! The next module will equip you with strategies to cope with distractibility. Focus on mastering one set of skills at a time to make steady progress. Concentrate on applying organizational techniques diligently and trust that you'll address other challenges in due time.

Additionally, you might encounter difficulty in evaluating the pros, cons, and overall feasibility of solutions, as well as determining the appropriate number of steps for each task. Remember, mastering new skills takes practice. The key is to persevere in your efforts to learn and improve. With consistent practice, using these skills will become second nature. Keep at it, and you'll find it becoming easier with time.

In conclusion, navigating through challenges such as distractibility and uncertainty in evaluating solutions is a natural part of the learning process. By focusing on one set of skills at a time and committing to consistent practice, you can gradually enhance your effectiveness and organization. Remember, each step forward, no matter how small, brings you closer to your goals. Embrace the journey of learning and growth, and trust in your ability to overcome obstacles along the way. With perseverance and dedication, you'll find yourself equipped with the tools to thrive in various aspects of life. Keep going, and don't forget to celebrate your progress along the way!
